Lets Talk About The Planets!

We talk a lot about planetary alignment or planetary movement, but what does it really mean? When a planet goes into retrograde, it means it it rotating in its opposite direction. This is why it can feel like things are going haywire during a retrograde–things are going backwards or in the wrong direction. Every retrograde is different, though, because it depends upon what planet is going through it. Before we go into any movements of the planets, I thought we should discuss what each of those planets mean.

Mercury is all about communication. That’s why people absolutely panic when Mercury goes into retrograde. It affects all areas of communication. In the modern era, technology takes a huge hit as it is a prime mode of communication. Because this is a planet of communication, it also influences ideas and intellect.

Many already know that Venus is the planet of love. That’s why “women are from Venus”. The feminine, the romantic. This can also be seen as strongly tied to abundance. Nothing brings abundance like the frequency of love!

I always found it odd that Earth is never included in these things. I guess we are all controlled and bound by Earth, so its influence is not as recognizable or notable. Oh, well. I think most of our problems come from Earth. When do WE retrograde? I think it would be worth noting…

Mars is the war planet. Hence “men are from Mars”. Anger, conflict, aggression… It sure is tiring. Aside from all the negative side effects of Mars, it can also dictate things like the actions we take or the desires we have or even our ability to survive.

Jupiter… That’s where boys go to get… “more stupider” I hear. However, there’s no reason to associate Jupiter with being stupid. While the focus isn’t on intellect as it is with Mercury, Jupiter is the planet of creativity! This brings in our bounties; will us good luck and good fortune. Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system and it surely packs a punch!

Now, Jupiter’s neighboring planet is basically its opposite. Saturn is all about discipline. Not that you can’t be creative and have discipline. It just seems like the more creative you are, the less rigid you are. Saturn is here for regiment, structure, responsibility… Quite boring in comparison. Wild how the most interesting planet can actually be the most basic.

There’s really something to the controversy of Uranus’ name. It is the planet that influences or instigates rebelliousness. On one hand, this can lead to progressiveness and innovation. On the other hand, it can lead to being out of hand. A true agent of chaos can stay calm in the midst of it all. For others, they can really be swept up in the excitement.

Neptune is another one of those planets that everyone sort of knows about. People often associate Neptune with the sea, despite their knowledge of who or what Neptune is. Because it is of the water, it has the dynamic of spirituality. This is going to be focused on dreams, premonitions, intuition, and all things mysticism.

Pluto will always be a planet to me. I really don’t care what anyone says. How can you demote Pluto after all that hard work? Especially when it holds such a special meaning! It is all about death and rebirth. Endings and beginnings. The old and renewed. Pluto is a transformative planet that we could never do without!

The Sun and Moon play pivotal roles in Astrology as well. In the simplest terms, the Sun is the masculine and the Moon is the feminine.

The planets get their names from the old Gods of Rome. This has a lot to do with the influence they have. Each sign is also assigned to or ruled by a planet (as well as the sun and moon). Our charts are comprised of each planet coordinating with a sign. This is another lovely discussion we can look forward to in the future!
