Mick: Happy Sunday!

L: Sunday is your day!

M: It is. Come see me! Everybody come see me on Sundays. Me and Libby!

L: 12 to 4, right?

M: Yes, 12 to 4.

L: Great. And you’ve been at the shop for over a year now!

M: I have. February of ‘25.

L: Wow. So, how did you find Illuminate?

M: Well, you know, I am native to Canton. So I knew them when they were next to Earth Lore. I think I had popped into the shop. I saw that they were hiring here, it was close to home and I came in and interviewed with Shelly and Libby, I read for them. Shelly offered me the job then and there.

L: What were you up to before?

M:  When I started my readings and such, I did everything through a Facebook page. So, for 7 years, I was on that page and running the page. They have about 12,000 members. I did lives there, almost like a gallery reading. I started reading at Grey’s Greenhouse at the Witches Soiree and events like that. I went and did an event, Haunted Detroit, and I met DPX and Tanya. Tanya and I were talking and she said, “You need to BE this” and showed me Whispers. I didn’t even know they had pages like that on Facebook! I had no clue. She directed me there. It started out, I was there for development. They had me start reading within three months. It was really weird how everything fell in, but I had this calling. This pull. I literally just left there in September. I was there the entire time, running that page. I do a lot of picture readings because I started online. 

L: What made you seek these things out?

M: You know, I kind of fell into it. I’ve always been drawn to it. My girlfriend’s mother, she was part of the Michigan Metaphysical Society. So, she read Tarot and she would pull them out and I always, always, always was drawn to them but I don’t have the capacity to remember all of it. So I am very intuitive. I don’t really read Tarot, but I use a Tarot deck though I have five oracle decks that I mainly read from. Anybody getting a reading with me, you know, they’ll see the cards. I don’t pull, they pop. Whatever falls out, those are our cards and we go from there. 

L: I kinda read like that, too. I like it to come out naturally.

M: Correct, I don’t wanna feel like I’m doing it.

L: Do you do spreads?

M: Yeah, I mean… Not like traditional spreads. It’s however I feel.

L: Same, same.

M: I could read for one person and it could be five cards. I could read for another, it could be 10. It depends. In fact, I’ve had people say, “Well last time it was [this many] cards” and I remind them, “you’re paying by the time, not the cards.”

L: Right. And I’m still gonna tell you what you need to know in this time.

M: Yes. And I’m very blunt. Anybody who’s gotten a reading from me–anybody who’s met me! What you see is what you get.

L: Yeah, I think we have a very similar style, haha.

M: There’s no pretense. In fact, my last reading just left. She goes, “You’re real blunt!” Yes, I am. If that is something you’re not comfortable with, I might not be the reader for you.

L: It says it right in my bio. I am the same way. You also did–or do–ghost hunting and house cleansing?

M: So, when I actually joined a paranormal team, I joined one of the oldest ones in Michigan. Very reputable. I had met them during an open house. It wasn’t private, just open to whoever. You pay, you go. I was able to pick up names–really do this stuff. Anybody who knows me knows I’m a total scaredy cat, so it’s weird to people now that I go into these places for fun! We go into the worst places. I love Randolph [asylum], it’s so active! You just have to be extremely careful. That’s the biggest thing, I find.

Even when I go in to do house cleansings. I can go into a house and immediately look, like, “Okay, here we go! Somebody’s messing with this, somebody’s doing that.” It can be ouija boards or spirit boxes, anything. I have to wonder, are they using them properly? Are they doing what they need to do to ensure their safety? Because if not, you can’t know what you’re bringing in and hence, you call me! I come out and cleanse everything, get everything out. We put that good energy back in. I do check on my people after I do it. One cleansing I just did, she was terrified of her basement. Now she’s telling me she was down there with no light on! She felt safe and secure after I did my work.

L: Honestly, I’m kind of scared of MY basement after dark. So… may need you to come over, haha.

M: That’s what we do! That’s what we do. Luckily, on my team, we have Samantha. She has a psychology background. Sometimes, you’re dealing with both. It could be someone’s mentality on top of what’s in the house. I can clear out the spirits. I can’t help somebody’s mental health.

L: Right. So, what came first for you? The ghosts or the cards?

M: The cards. Readings. It was the pull. When my calling came, it was to bring hope and peace. I do that with my readings. My mentor was excellent. She’s the one who kind of made me want more, you know? Because there is a lot more than just the reading. It’s everything involved with it. Spirits ARE everywhere. Energy is everywhere. So you have to take precautions. You have to know what you’re dealing with.

L: Do you think that, doing the ghost hunting and the house cleansing, helps with your… psychic abilities?

M: No, my psychic abilities play a hand so I know what I’m dealing with. I can lock in and I know. Even looking at a picture. Even briefly, I don’t have to stare at it. If it’s bad, I’ll get the feeling in my gut. I know immediately what I’m working with. So, with the paranormal, it’s the same. When I was with Portal–I joined them in 2025 because of my abilities–I was called in on a lot of house cleansings. So I’ve seen a lot of things. A lot of times, it’s people. Sometimes, it’s not. It really depends. It can be a perfect storm. You get people who are open who don’t know how to properly take care of anything spiritually, like doing grounding and protection. The things you’re supposed to do before you open yourself up and a lot of people don’t because they don’t know. When I was with Whispers, the first thing we start with is grounding and protecting. That’s the most important thing, honestly, in your spiritual toolbox. 

I love, as tenderly as I can, but I’m very honest. Same thing with the house cleansings and that sort of stuff. I do the house cleansings to bring people peace. I get people who think they’re gonna have to move! Ten acres, we did it. Full partition of the land and house. I have blessed salt, holy water, I use frankincense and myrrh. She had knives flying off the shelves! It was craziness. We got that under control. But I’m gonna tell you, people think that you cleanse, you’re good. It’s your house! You can’t cleanse once. It’s gonna be something that has to be done every so often to ensure you have your peace and not having that stuff in there.

L: If somebody wanted a house cleansing from you, can they book through Illuminate Your Spirit?

M: Yeah, they absolutely can!

L: And you even go–not just beyond the human realm into the spirit world but also beyond the human realm and into the animal world?!

M: Yes! I talk to everything and everyone. I’m chatty. I’ll just talk. People think I’m just talking to myself. I especially talk to my cat Nino, even though he’s persnickety. He will call people names, he can be mean! Haha. They’re like people. We all have a personality. Same with your animals.

L: Absolutely! And I think it’s obvious that animals have personalities but people aren’t aware of how deep it can go.  And, the repeat question… What’s your favorite deck?

M: Ugh! Hahaha. I read with six, so I’m gonna say the six. Those are my favorite. My tried and true, security blanket. I have a zillion decks. I have two I use for me. One is Mother Mary and the other is by the same person, Alana Fairchild. She makes beautiful, beautiful cards, I love them. They’re gorgeous. But of my tried and true, a few are from Doreen Virtue, the Tarot deck I use–the fairy one–is hers. My very favorite deck is probably the first one I got and I cannot for the life of me remember it but I’m notorious for having a bad memory. The artwork is beautiful and I think I like the messages because they get to a deeper point with the person.

L: I think I still need a reading from you! I don’t think you’ve ever given me one.

M: I don’t think I’ve read for anyone here. Maybe me and Libby going back and forth. Because I’m just here on Sundays! And we get busy, busy, busy. When you come to me, I do think of myself as a spiritual counselor. Although, I do understand this is for entertainment purposes. But again, like I said, my mission or whatever you wanna call it, is to bring peace and clarity.

L: Oh, I bet. And I know you have another appointment, so I’ll be brief. Thanks for talking to us!

M: It was my pleasure!

L: Yeah! It was so fun–because I DON’T know much about your history, so I get the inside scoop just as much as our readers have!

M: Yeah, always been drawn but I was always afraid of it! And once you face that fear and understand–I feel like that’s with anything. Once you understand what you’re dealing with, then you have the tools to be able to do it. And I will say this.. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

L: I agree with that.

M: That’s my biggest thing, Just because you can… A lot of times I get called in, it’s because people were messing with stuff. Even antiques! People thrifting. I went to a house that was FILLED. We cleanse the house and then I teach people that when you bring things into your house, it needs to go and stay outside. You got a garage? Put it in your garage, circle it with salt, here’s some Palo Santo, smudge it, get it out! Wait the three days, then bring it in your home. And since they’ve done that, no problems.

L: No problems. Great! Well, hopefully people will continue to trust you in their homes to get a house cleansing if that’s what they need and if not, they can pop into the shop and at least get a reading and get a feel for ya!

M: Absolutely! If you don’t like blunt and you don’t like honest, I am not the reader for you!

L: Hahaha!

M: That’s the truth. I want you to be comfortable. If you’re not comfortable with me, you’re not gonna open yourself up. I connect, too. Before I read, I ask, can I connect to your energy?
